Heal Your Cracked Heels Using a Baking Soda Foot Soak

Cracked heels are not just an aesthetic problem that can lower your confidence and cause embarrassment when your feet are visible. They can also become painful and it’s not surprising considering that the cracks show that the skin is not in its healthiest shape. There are several causes worth mentioning: dehydration, excessive scrubbing and using very hot water when cleaning, keeping your feet in water for too long, reactions to strong soaps, diabetes and obesity – these can all be the reason your feet suffer.

A healthy diet can heal your cracked heels

Another thing that may damage your heels is a diet lacking in nutritious value. Here are a few nutrients you need to consume regularly.

  • Vitamin A

Vitamin A is one of the most commonly recommended vitamins when it comes to skin health. Good natural sources for it are green leafy vegetables, apricots, carrots and sweet potatoes.

  • Vitamin C

An excellent antioxidant, vitamin C boosts the immune system and helps fight free radical damage that is responsible for various skin problems. In addition to that, it stimulates the production of collagen, a protein responsible for the good overall health of the skin. Citrus fruits are some of the best sources of vitamin C, along with green leafy vegetables.

  • Vitamin E

A common vitamin when it comes to skin products, it helps fight against free radicals and other harmful agents from the environment. Recommended foods would be green vegetables and nuts.

  • Omega-3 fats

Known as the good fats, these bring a variety of health benefits: improved blood circulation, brain and joint health; they are also crucial for keeping the skin healthy. The best source of omega-3 is fish, but plant oils and seeds are a good choice as well.

  • Zinc

Zinc ensures the proper functioning of skin cells. Some good sources of zinc are red meats, seafood and whole grains.

Relieve your cracked heels quickly using this baking soda foot soak

Ingredients:

  • baking soda
  • warm water
  • natural moisturizing foot cream
  • 2-4 cups of almond milk

Procedure:

  • Pour the milk into a pot, heat it until it is warm enough for your skin to be comfortable with the temperature. Do not leave it until it boils.
  • Get a large bowl, pour the milk inside it and place your feet inside. Soak your feet for at least 10 minutes. Add some baking soda and scrub well, but gently at the same time.
  • Rinse using warm water and dry your feet well.
  • Apply some natural moisturizing foot cream in order to keep the skin soft.

You should see results from the first application, but you can repeat daily, depending on your needs. This soak will ensure the skin is restored to its maximum strength, eliminating and protecting from bacteria, as a bonus.

Feet health is often overlooked or thought of as something that can only be maintained with expensive spa treatments. This couldn’t be further from the truth. With just a few simple items, you can have skin that is smoother, prettier and healthier than it has ever been.
